Pharmacy Schools in OH

With seven pharmacy schools spread around the state, Ohio is one of the front running states in the pharmacy domain.  It’s a great state to study pharmacy but not one where many would choose to work due to the much lower than average salaries.

The local universities and colleges have a total student population of around 170,000 students, of which approximately 3,000 will be studying for their PharmD degree.

Compared to other states, the ratio of students studying in public and private institutions is relatively even.

Basically, Ohio has four public institutions and three private schools.

Aside from the Northeast Ohio Medical University, all of them have been established during the eighteenth century. Only two of them have religious affiliations – the Cedarville University (Baptism, Evangelical) and the Ohio Northern University (United Methodist Church).

It is extremely surprising to find out that although Ohio is one of the top three states in pharmacy education, the average salary for a pharmacist is almost two times lower than the national average. An average pharmacist makes around $42,000 a year. Salaries today are almost eight time smaller compared to the first semester of 2013. In the best cases, a clinical pharmacy supervisor might go up to $155,000, while a transplant pharmacist can go up to $214,000. On the other hand, an outpatient pharmacy technician is lucky to make more than $30,000 a year, not to mention about hospital pharmacy technicians.
